Meet Christina, one of our Certified Veterinary Technicians.
Do you have any nicknames?
My partner calls me Yee (my middle name and mother’s maiden name), but I do not encourage him to do this 😆; I’m also Auntie Tina to BPC technician Becca’s dogs.
In your words, what is your job at Beaverton Pet Clinic?
I’m a certified veterinary technician, so the majority of my job is performing treatments on patients and assisting doctors during appointments and surgery- this could look like anything from expressing anal glands and trimming nails to taking radiographs or interpreting samples under a microscope, to monitoring patients under anesthesia or performing dental cleanings; being board certified means that I’m also allowed to induce anesthesia, place endotracheal tubes and give Rabies vaccines (woohoo!). And then I’m also the technician team lead so I have a small number of administrative duties.
Why did you decide to work at Beaverton Pet Clinic?
I decided to work at BPC because my first impressions were that the quality of medicine is outstanding and the doctors and managers are wonderful and take excellent care of the staff. That holds true after 4 years of employment here- I have never worked on a more skilled and compassionate team, and it’s definitely a place that is very supportive of both individual and collective growth, which is extremely important to me.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, I am a known “big dog person” who recently foster-failed into owning a little kitten that was dropped off at the clinic as a stray. His name is Klaus and he is a tiny orange menace with a heart of gold and very few brain cells. My partner and I are also thinking about adding a puppy to the household?? Updates to follow.
Tell us a little-known fact about you!
Before I moved to Oregon (from CA of course), I used to volunteer at a zoo. I have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to draw blood on fennec foxes and snakes, hand-feed red pandas, and assist on exams for lemurs, wallabies, porcupines, jaguars, fossas, the list goes on.
